Hazards

Respiratory:

Avoid breathing vapors, stay upwind, don SCBA

Fire/Explosion – highly flammable, vapors may explode.  May be transported in elevated temperatures.

Fire can produce toxic gases.

Health – Inhalation or skin contact may cause irritation or burns.  Inhalation can cause dizziness, suffocation.  Listed as marine pollutant.

Eye/Face/Body:

Chemical protective gloves, boots, goggles.  Use PPE when handling broken packages

Emergency Medical Actions

Incompatible

Move victim to fresh air, call EMS.  Provide rescue breathing if necessary, or high level oxygen.

Remove and isolate contaminated clothing, flush skin and/or eyes for 15 minutes.

Maintain normal body temperature.

Notes

Initial and Protective Action Distances

Medical effects may be delayed.

Insoluble in water, vapors heavier than air.

Small Spills <>

Eliminate ignition sources, stop leak or shut off valves.  Absorb with earth, sand or cover with foam blanket.

Large Spills <>

Dike far ahead of spill.  Water spray may reduce vapor but may not prevent ignition.

Emergency Response Actions

Stop discharge, containment and collection systems.

Use foam to fight fire or suppress vapors.

CO2, dry chemical can also be used on smaller fires.
