Emergency Response PPE (Fire Fighters)
Hazards |
Respiratory: Harmful if inhaled. Wear positive pressure SCBA or airline. |
Reacts violently with water, giving exothermic
reaction Reacts exothermically with organic materials
(wood) Can react with metal storage container, causing
build-up of hydrogen in vapor space. Corrosive to skin and many metals |
Eye/Face/Body: Chemical protective clothing required, including
rubber gloves & boots |

Emergency Medical Actions
Incompatible |
Contact physician – observe for delayed pulmonary
action Do not induce vomiting, give large amounts of
water if conscious For eyes and skin, flush with copious amount of
water for at least 15 minutes, do not use Oils
or ointments If ingested, do not perform mouth-to-mouth
breathing |

Notes
Initial and Protective Action Distances |
Small Spills
<>
Dry earth, sand, lime or soda ash. Restrict entry to those necessary |
Large Spills
<>
Evacuate downwind for at least 250 meters (800 ft) If vapor cloud already exists, consider sheltering
in place. |

Emergency Response Actions
Medium expansion foams can be used to suppress
vapors. Do not use water on liquid. However vapors can be contained/redirected
with fog streams. Runoff water may
become acidic. If container is involved in fire, cool the vapor
space with large amounts of water. |
